Lucky Cement has approved a 3.2Mta brownfield expansion of its Karachi cement plant in Pakistan, with commercial operation targeted by December 2027.

The new production facilities will be integrated with a cement grinding installation already under construction. On completion, the Karachi plant’s capacity is expected to increase to 8.55Mta, taking Lucky Cement’s total installed capacity in Pakistan to 18.8Mta.

The board also approved 22.5MW of additional wind capacity and a 10MW waste heat recovery plant at Karachi. A 15MW solar plant and 15MW battery energy storage system will be installed at the company’s Pezu works. Lucky expects the projects to enable renewable power to meet approximately 60 per cent of its cement operations’ energy requirements, including the Karachi expansion.
