Pakistan cement output up 6.6% YoY

Cement output in Pakistan during the first 10 months (July-April) of FY17 increased by 2.12 per cent on a MoM basis and 6.63 per cent on a YoY basis.   According to data released by the country's Federal Bureau of Statistics, the domestic cement industry produced 3.33Mt in April 2017 compared to 3.258Mt in April 2016.   On cumulative basis, during July-April 2017 cement production totalled 31.12Mt vs 29.17Mt in the same period a year earlier. Ambuja Cements receives state nod for new grinding plant

Odisha's State Level Single Window Clearance Authority (SLSWCA) on Friday gave Ambuja Cement the go-ahead to construct a 1.5Mta cement grinding unit. The LafargeHolcim group's Indian concern has proposed the facility be established on 125 acres of land at Jharsuguda, according to Business Standard India.

Ube Industries increases stake in Tokyo Cement

Japan-based Ube Industries' Singapore subsidiary Ube Singapore Holdings has acquired a further 10.62m shares in Sri Lanka-based Tokyo Cement Company Lanka Plc, for LKR764.6m (US$5m), a stock exchange filling said. As at 31 March 2017, Ube Singapore Holdings held a share of over two per cent (4.4m shares) in Tokyo Cement. With this new acquisition its shareholding has increased to over 10 per cent.

Taiwan plans to lower cement cap on exports

Pakistan cement exports during the first 11 months (July 2016 to May 2017) of the current fiscal declined by 21.27 per cent to 4.319Mt versus 5.486Mt a year earlier, according to latest data from the All Pakistan Cement Manufacturers Association (APCMA). Annapurna Cements, Nepal’s newest greenfield plant, is scheduled to go into commercial production by June-end, according to local press reports. “We have adopted advanced technologies and modern equipment,” Rajendra Rawat, director of the company told the Kathmandu Post. “We will be importing raw materials from India.” The factory plans to sell its products in Provinces 1, 2 and 3 in the first phase. Cement imports from India to Nepal have doubled over the first 10 months of the current fiscal, according to a report in the Himalayan Times. The value of imports of cement arriving into Nepal from its neighbouring country reached NPR16.02bn  (US$155.8m) compared to NPR7.99bn in the corresponding period of the last fiscal. Vietnam's Ho Chi Minh City has proposed Vietnam's Ministry of Construction to adjust its cement development plan, so that no new cement projects will be licensed in the metropolis and existing plants will be relocated.
