Bamburi Cement names new CEO

Bamburi Cement, part of the Lafarge group, has announced the appointment of Bruno Pescheux as chief executive officer and a member of the Board of Directors, effective 21 July 2014. Mr Pescheux previously held the position of CEO of Lafarge Syria. He takes over from Hussein Mansi who has been Bamburi Cement’s CEO over the past five years.

Kenya’s antitrust authority may force Lafarge SA to sell some of its domestic interests if the cement maker is found to be flouting domestic competition rules, according to Bloomberg reports. Ugandan producer Hima Cement has outlined ambitious sustainability plans focussed on five main pillars. Bamburi signs waste management partnership deal, Kenya

Kenya’s largest producer, Bamburi Cement, and Mombasa County government have entered into a KES4.8bn (US$55.7m) partnership to develop a solid waste management system. Bamburi will finance a feasibility study and provide equipment to boost the country’s waste management capabilities. Kenya's Bamburi Cement reported a 12 per cent decline in pretax profit for the first six months of 2013 but is confident of a second-half turnaround in two of its core East African markets. Bamburi Cement has reported a 15 per cent decline in pretax profit for full year 2012 to KES7.17bn (US$83m) as it is impacted by lower gains on its foreign currency holdings, Reuters has reported. East Africa Portland Cement Company (EAPCC) has turned to its shareholder, Bamburi Cement, to supply clinker a year after it severed a four-year supply deal with the firm and inked a contract with National Cement.
