Geometrica supplied three bulk storage structures for Carthage Cement’s Djebel Ressas cement works, Tunisia’s largest and newest cement facility. Carthage Cement officially inaugurated its new cement plant in Tunisia on 5 October. The opening ceremony was attended by Mr. Ridha Saidi, Minister in charge of Economic Affairs, Mr. Mehdi Jomaa, Minister of Industry and Mr. Elyes Fakhfakh, Minister of Finance. Tunisia’s Carthage Cement lit up its precalciner for the first time on 4 September 2013, in the presence of international experts. The new line is expected to produce 2.2Mta of cement to meet the demand of the local construction sector as well as neighbouring countries.  The first bag of cement is expected to be available at the factory gate in October.

Carthage Cement to start production September 2013

Tunisia's Carthage Cement is expected to produce its first bag of cement on 2 September, according to Riadh Ben Khelifa, managing director of Carthage Cement. The cement plant represents an investment of TND836m (US$510m), of which TND500 as loans by 14 banks. Carthage’s MD added that the company is currently awaiting permission to establish a bag manufacturing plant as well permits to use alternative fuels (RDF) and derive part of its electricity from wind sources.
