Chile's Cementos Bío Bío restructures Corpbanca and BCI loan

Chilean cement producer Cementos Bío Bío has reached a finance agreement with Corpbanca and BCI to restructure a loan taken out in August 2012. The CLP120bn (US$206m) loan has a maturity of seven years and a two-year grace period. The loan will be repaid in 20 quarterly installments, starting 17 November 2016. The debt restructuring is expected to enable the cement company to face a contraction in the cement market in an improved financial position.

Chile: Bío-Bío Talcahuano cuts PM by more than 600tpa

Cementos Bío-Bío has cut PM emissions at its Talcahuano works by more than 600tpa. The improvement follows the installation of a bag filter, which has been in operations since last year and represents an investment of US$5m.

Bío-Bío shares up 17% after Chilean earthquake

Shares of Cementos Bío-Bío rose 16.73 per cent to CLP600 on the Santiago Stock Exchanges in antipication of an increase in cement demand due to the earthquake that struck northern Chile. A strong magnitude 8.2 earthquake struck the provinces Arica/Parinacota and Tarapacá on Tuesday, followed by a tsunami and several powerful aftershocks.

Chile: Cementos BioBio to use fly ash

Cementos BioBio’s Antofagasta works in the north of Chile and E-CL have signed a contract to use fly ash in the production of cement. After a long development and testing process, ash from the Central Térmica Andina and Central Térmica Hornitos thermal power stations in Mejillones will replace natural pozzolans use in the cement production process. Cementos Bío Bío appoints new CEO, Chile

Chilean cement firm Cementos Bío Bío has appointed Iñaki Otegui as CEO effective 1 August 2013, the company said in a filing to local securities and insurance regulator. Otegui replaces Jorge Matus, who resigned after 39 years with the cement producer. Cementos Bío Bío is Chile's largest cement producer with four integrated plants at Curicó, Antofagasta, Talcahuano and San Antonio and a total cement capacity of 3.28Mta.

Bío Bío and Votorantim to start work on Peruvian plant

After two years, Chile’s Cementos Bío Bío and its Brazilian partner Votorantim have successfully obtained all permits to build their first plant in Peru, representing an investment of US$160m. Cementos Bio Bio raises output 8% in 2012

Chilean cement producer Cementos Bio Bio increased its production by eight per cent YoY from 1.5Mt to 1.6Mt in 2012. As a result, the company, led by Hernan Briones, was able to maintain its 29 per cent market share. Mixed results for Chilean producers

Two of Chile’s top cement producers have reported mixed results for the first quarter of 2012. Cementos Bío Bío (CBB) posted a net loss of CLP408m (US$787,000) in the first quarter, compared with a net profit of CLP204m in 1Q11. The results were due to non-operational charges related to foreign exchange effects, the firm said in a research note.
