Colombian cement consumption rises 8.6% YoY in August

Colombia’s cement market expanded by 8.6 per cent YoY in August to 1.108Mt on the back of increased demand from construction companies and contractors (+21.4 per cent) and ready-mix firms (+9.7 per cent) which accounted for 6.3 percentage points of the increase, according to national statistics office DANE. Cementos Molins to enter Colombian market

Cementos Molins has signed an agreement to enter the Colombian cement market with local home and construction specialist Corona. The Spanish cement producer plans to build a EUR335m cement works in Antioquia. The plant will have a capacity of 1.35Mta and is scheduled to come online in mid-2018. The production facility will provide 220 direct and 250 indirect jobs during operation and an average of 800 jobs during the construction phase, according to local press reports.

Growth in Colombian cement demand continues as dispatches increased 8.8 per cent YoY to 1.152Mt, according to DANE, the country's statistics office. Colombia’s cement dispatches rose 10.2 per cent YoY in June to 1.0121Mt as building companies and contractors increased their demand by 25.8 per cent.
