The Philippines' Eagle Cement Corp saw a 25 per cent YoY fall in first quarter net profit to PHP1.2bn (US$23.6m) as construction activities were halted in mid-March as part of measures to curb the coronavirus pandemic. Philippines-based Eagle Cement has donated food packs to the residents of Bulacan, amidst the quarantine period in place due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Philippines-based Eagle Cement Corp saw its net sales advance 20 per cent YoY to PHP19.82bn (US$387.78m) in 2019. Gross profit rose 20 per cent to PHP8.67bn, while net income reached PHP6.02bn. Kosmos Cement Co in Kentucky, USA, a joint venture between Cemex and Buzzi Unicem, has signed an agreement for the sale of certain assets to Eagle Materials. The US$665m transaction is expected to close in the 1Q20 following regulatory approvals. Eagle Cement Corp said the opening of its cement plant in Malabuyoc in Cebu, Philippines, will be delayed following issues in receiving the required permits for its construction.
