Retail cement price in El Salvador fell in August

The price for a 42.5kg bag of cement sold by retailers in San Salvador, El Salvador, fell to US$8.32/bag in August, according to Casalco, the country’s construction chamber. The drop represents the second-consecutive month of declining cement prices. In July and June, the price for a bag of cement was US$8.39 and US$8.45, respectively, after edging up from US$8.42 in May. Meanwhile, the ex-works cement price has remained stable at US$7.57/bag.

New 120,000tpa cement plant for El Salvador

Guatemala’s Monterrey group has laid the first stone for a new 120,000tpa cement plant on the Acajutla-Sonsonate road in Acajutla, El Salvador. Construction will be carried out by Qualicons, a Guatemalan capital construction company. The facility is located near an industrial dock, which will enable raw material imports from Asia. The new works represents an investment of US$12m and is expected to provided 600 people with employment. Commissioning of the plant is expected in December 2019.

Ex-works cement price stable in El Salvador, retail price sees modest slip

The price of a 42.5kg bag of cement, ex-works in El Salvador remained stable in May 2019 at $7.57 when compared with the previous month, according to the Salvadoran construction chamber, CASALCO. Retail prices slipped slightly to $8.42/bag (including 13 per cent VAT), down from $8.44/bag in April 2019.

Holcim invests US$1m in solid waste processing in El Salvador

LafargeHolcim and its Geocycle brand have plans to invest more than US$1m in new waste processing equipment in El Salvador. The new equipment will be used to treat solid waste to supply alternative fuel for its cement production in the country. Apparent cement consumption in El Salvador has increased by 28 per cent in the January-November 2018 period to 27,314,750 bags of 42.5kg, or 1,160,877t, when compared with 21,802,300 bags or 926,598t in the 11M17, according to the country’s construction chamber, CASALCO. Cemento Regional has received a new modular and portable grinding station from Cemengal for its expansion in El Salvador, Guatemala. The project consists of a Plug&Grind ® Classic, a modular packaging and palletising system, raw material and cement storage halls and silos for bulk dispatching. The new grinding unit will be commissioned during the 1H19 with a production of more than 12tph.

Cemex Latin American Holdings saw turnover decline by 5.5 per cent to US$1315.3m and EBITDA fell by 26.7 per cent to US$310.8m, with the margin coming down from 32.2 to 25 per cent.
