EPA calls for clearer visibility in Montana region, USA

The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has said that two cement plants in the Montana area need to invest in measures to improve visibility in wilderness areas and national parks. The EPA says upgrades are needed at Ash Grove’s cement plant near Montana City and Holcim’s cement plant near Three Forks as well as the Colstrip power plant. A plan to burn tyres at GCC’s Rio Grande plant in Pueblo, Colorado, USA is nearing final approval. State air pollution regulators have issued a draft permit for GCC Rio Grande's proposal. Athi River Mining has appealed to the National Environment Management Authority (Nema) to re-open its factory at Kaloleni in Kilifi County, saying they have met all the conditions the environmental body set. All operations at Trinidad Cement Company have shut down as the Oilfields Workers’ Trade Union (OWTU) began strike action yesterday after wage talks collapsed. Essroc Cement Corporation has agreed to pay a US$82,000 fine for alleged violations. The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) imposed the fine to settle alleged violations of toxic chemical reporting requirements at Essroc’s plant in Nazareth, PA.
