Birla Corp Ltd awaiting mining clearance ahead of joint venture project

Birla Corporation Ltd (BCL) said on Thursday said it is awaiting mining clearances from the Assam Mineral Development Corp (AMDC) to set up a joint venture in the state. Private equity firm KKR is teaming up with diversified trading and commodities group SIMEC to invest INR9bn (US$141.5m) to take over the cement business of debt-laden ABG Group. India’s core sector growth rises to 4.4 per cent in May

Growth in India’s eight core sectors, including the cement industry, increased to 4.4 per cent in May 2015 versus a decline of 0.4 per cent in April. JSW Cement plans to start two greenfield grinding units each in West Bengal and Tamil Nadu, India, with potential locations currently being identified. The government of India has so far transferred the environment clearance (EC) of 19 coal blocks out of a total of 29 approved mines from the previous allottees to new successful bidders including some cement producers. ACC Ltd informed the Bombay Stock Exchange that it has resumed limestone mining operations at Bargarh in Odisha state after about nine months.
