CRH's first-half driven by the Americas

CRH's first half turnover advanced by 12.6 per cent to €9,370m and the EBITDA improved by 9.9 per cent to €555m. The trading profit increased by 11.2 per cent to €189m and after a net interest charge 8.6 per cent higher at €139m, the pre-tax profit increased by 3.3 per cent to €63m. The net attributable result improved by €1m to €46m. Ireland: EPA to investigate Limerick dust emissions

As it cleared a blockage from its preheater, Irish Cement’s Limerick plant caused a dust emission that coated cars and houses. The dust release at around 4am on Saturday 25 July affected residents in a 3km-5km radius around the Castlemungret facility. Ireland’s Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) will go to the High Court next month as part of its probe into alleged anti-competitive practices in the cement industry, according to a report in the Irish Times. Quinn Cement Ltd has been fined EUR2000 plus costs after the company pleaded guilty to having previously failed to control dust emissions from its plant in Ballyconnell, Ireland. CRH’s turnover increased by 4.9 per cent in 2014 to EUR18,912m while the EBITDA advanced by 11.3 per cent to EUR1641m. The trading profit before charging EUR49m of impairments rose by 28.8 per cent to EUR966m.
