Brazil Jan cement sales rise 6.8% YoY

Preliminary data and market estimates show that Brazilian cement sales increased by 6.8 per cent in January 2014 to 5.9Mt, latest data from local cement association SNIC shows.  Sales for the 12 months between February 2013 – January 2013 totaled 79.4Mt, representing an increase of 2.5 per cent compared to the comparative period of the previous year (February 2012 – January 2013).

Brazilian cement sales seen reaching 70Mt in 2013

Brazilian cement sales in during December 2013 remained stagnant at 5.1Mt compared to the same month of the previous year, latest data from local association SNIC shows. In the final quarter of 2013, sales increased by 2.7 per cent. In the first, second and third quarters sales increased by two, 4.4 and 4.2 per cent respectively. These preliminary results indicate that for 2013, sales by domestic producers into the market were 70Mt compared to 68.3Mt the year before, a rise of 2.3 per cent.

Peru market expands at slower rate

Cement dispatches in Peru increased 7.45 per cent YoY to 9,408,853t between January and November 2013, according to the its cement association Asocem. The latest figures confirm a cooling trend as dispatches in October increased 8.23 per cent and January-November 2012 showed a rise of 16.6 per cent. Grey cement production in Colombia during November 2013 totalled 1.02Mt, a 9.6 per cent increase when compared with the same month of the previous year. In addition, the domestic cement market expanded by 6.9 per cent to 978,000t. This was less than the 14 per cent consumption growth noted in October. Peru’s Jan-Nov demand advances 7.5% YoY

Cement dispatches in Peru fell from 939,135t in October to 896,600t in November. However, the country’s cement companies produced 920,636t, up from 916,774t the previous month and cement exports rose from 18,090t to 23,236t during the period. For January to November, Peruvian cement demand increased by 7.45 per cent YoY to 9,408,853t while exports rose 5.33 per cent to 182,427t. Around 9,598,552t of cement was produced, an advance of 6.9 per cent when compared with Jan-Nov 2012.

Ecuador cement sales continue upward trend

Ecuador cement sales continued their upward trend in November, rising by 5.9 per cent YoY, latest statistics from local cement association, Inecyc, show. During November 2013 sales reached 594,814t compared to 561,534t in the same month of 2012. For the year to-date, sales were ahead by 9.8 per cent reaching 6.043Mt over Jan-November 2013, against the 5.504Mt recorded in the comparative period of last year.

Loma Negra to proceed with San Juan plant

Loma Negra has Loma Negra approved the construction of a new cement plant in San Juan, according to the Argentine cement producer’s manager, Osvaldo Schütz. While the company had shelved the project, which was to start this year, following the strong protest of the local Pocito population, Mr Schütz said the plant would be built but did not specify the exact location.
