Loma Negra to cut 265 jobs

Argentine cement producer Loma Negra, part of the InterCement Group, has announced that it plans to cut 265 jobs in its Barker cement plant Barker, Buenos Aires province. Currently the plant employs 330 staff. The company attributes the personnel reduction to the economic recession. The government is currently negotiating a solution, according to Esmerk Latin American News.

Loma Negra and Bridgestone enter water partnership

Argentina’s Loma Negra and Bridgestone have entered a partnership to re-use in Llavallol, Buenos Aires province. Bridgestone will supply 200,000lpd of filtered water. The step will enable the cement producer to reduce pressure on the aquifer it uses to feed its plant.

Argentina’s Loma Negra has reported a 7.9 per cent YoY increase in net revenue to ARS26,807m (US$789m) in 2018, compared with ARS24,839m of the previous year. Aumund Brazil has worked closely with Sinoma Tianjin TDS of China to create two orders in South America. Aumund will supply three chain bucket elevators, eight belt bucket elevators, five pan conveyors and a drag chain conveyor for Loma Nega Cement's L'Amali Line 2 in Argentina. Argentina-based Loma Negra has posted a net revenue of ARS6.131m (US$192m), up 47.2 per cent YoY in the third quarter of 2018. Loma Negra reports its 2Q18 net revenue increased 37.2 per cent to ARS4.757bn (US$169.4m) in 2Q18, from ARS3.467bn in the comparable quarter last year. Argentina-based producer Loma Negra reported a 41.6 per cent rise in net revenues in the first quarter of 2018 to ARS4534m (US$230m) as the company’s combined cement, masonry and lime sales volumes in Argentina increased 9.5 per cent YoY and prices were favourable. Argentina’s Loma Negra will purchase 15MW of power from renewable energy company Genneia. The power will be generated by Genneia’s Rawson wind farm in Chubut province.
