Baturaja to part-finance new plant with bank loan

Indonesia’s state-controlled cement producer PT Semen Baturaja plans to get IDR700-800bn (US$57.7-65.9m) in bank loans to finance its new IDR2.9tn plant in South Sumatra. The company intends to start construction of the 1.85Mta plant early next year with commissioning scheduled for 2018. In 9M14, Semen Baturaja posted sales of 853,089t and the company forecasts volumes of 1.31Mt for the year, up four per cent YoY.

Shree Cement gets go-ahead for Bihar plant, India

The state government of Bihar has approved Shree Cement’s plans for a new cement plant in the Aurangabad district. Informing about the Cabinet decision, B Pradhan, Principal Secretary of the Cabinet Secretariat told reporters: “The company had proposed to set up a cement plant with a production capacity of 20 lakh metric tonnes per annum [2Mta]. It will also have a 12MW biomass based captive power plant."

Bolivia: Potosi plant ruled out

Bolivia’s president, Evo Morales, ruled out the building of a cement plant in Quiburi, Potosi.  The new works was expected to cost US$401m, including the building of a pipeline that feeds the plant. However, the project was postponed indefinitely although Empresa Pública Productiva Cementos de Bolivia (Ecebol) launched an international tender in February 2012 for the construction and commissioning of the plant.

JSW Group seeks to set up new Karnataka unit

JSW Group, is planning to set up a 3Mta clinker plant at Chittapur in Gulbarga district, in Karnataka state. PT Semen Indonesia will soon acquire 500ha of land in West Papua for the construction of a cement plant at a cost of around US$150m. Semen Indonesia corporate secretary Agung Wiharto told the Jakarta Post that the firm would sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) later this year to procure the land for the first cement factory in the province. Cimentos Tupi to build new plant in Paraná state

Brazilian producer Cimentos Tupi is to invest BRL915m (US$408m) in a new factory in Adrianópolis, Paraná state. According to local news reports, the plant will have a capacity of 1.5Mta. Cimentos Tupi executives signed a letter of intent with the state government of Paraná yesterday. The new investment will be the company’s first cement facility to be located in the south.
