Nigeria: Work commences on Dangote’s Okpella plant

A groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a new cement plant has been held as part of celebrations to mark Aliko Dangote’s 59 th birthday. The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the new plant, in Okpella in southern Nigeria, is projected to cost US$1bn and will have a capacity of 6Mta. Pakistan producer DG Khan Cement has reported that its southern expansion project is progressing well and is scheduled for commissioning in 2QFY18. Approval granted for new Quang Nam plant, Vietnam

ThaiGroup JSC has received approval from the Peoples’ Committee of Quang Nam province in Vietnam's central region to develop the second cement plant in the area. The company plans to build the plant on an area of 6.5ha in Thanh My town, Nam Giang district, Vietnam's Ministry of Construction said. Zambia-based ZCCM Investments Holdings is expected to develop a cement plant and 52MW thermal power and Ndola as part of the company’s diversification programme. Southern Province Cement Line 2 due for end-June completion

Work on Southern Province Cement's second production line at its Bishah plant in Saudi Arabia has been delayed, according to a company statement to the Saudi bourse. The company added that 83 per cent of the project has been completed so far and is scheduled for commissioning at the end of June 2016. The delay does not have any financial impact, the cement producer said.

India: Shree Cements reports 10% rise in quarterly net profit

Shree Cements reported a 10 per cent rise in standalone net profit at INR10.286bn (US$0.151m) for the quarter ended 31 December 2015 compared to a profit of INR9.368bn a year earlier, it said in a Bombay Stock Exchange filing. Turkmenistan looks to increase production capacity

Egypt issues licences for new cement factories in Upper Egypt

Egypt's Ministry of Trade and Industry has issued new 14 licences for cement factories in Upper Egypt governorates, Minister Tarek Qabil announced Wednesday. According to the minister, the factories are set to operate with coal, providing them with the necessary energy security for stable cement production. Fitch Ratings has upgraded Grupo Cementos de Chihuahua (GCC) local and foreign currency Issuer Default Ratings (IDRs) to 'BB' from 'BB-'.
