Leading Russian cement producer Eurocement has placed an order for more than €80m with KHD for a new cement plant to be built in Stavropol, Russia. Lafarge to set up two cement plants in Algeria – report

Lafarge will build two cement plants in Algeria in partnership with local private group Sagremac. Thanks to the two projects, the French company will be able to boost its positions on the Algerian market. The first cement plant will be built in Biskra, in the south-eastern part of Algeria, for US$400m, while the second unit will be located near Constantine, in eastern Algeria. Pakistan’s Lucky Cement is to construct a 0.87Mt grinding plant in Iraq through a joint venture, according to reports by the Associated Press of Pakistan. Loma Negra announces new plant construction, Argentina

Argentine cement producer Loma Negra has announced it will invest US$250m in a new cement plant in the province of San Juan. The factory will be built in the town of Pocito, 20km from the capital of San Juan, and will have a production capacity of 1Mta of cement. Currently, Loma Negra has nine plants, six of which are in the province of Buenos Aires, while the remaining are in Neuquén, San Juan and Catamarca. Loma Negra is part of Brazilian conglomerate Camargo Corrêa.

Jaypee plans capacity hike, India

India’s Jaypee Group is aiming to increase cement capacity to around 50Mta over the next five years from 33.5Mt, the Economic Times of India reports. Holcim Indonesia plans to distribute IDR425bn (US$46m) in dividends, or the equivalent of 40 per cent of its 2011 net income, its chief executive has said. Canadian engineering firm Cemcorp has been given permission by the National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA) to construct Jamaica's second cement plant, according to local press reports. The Saudi Industrial Development Fund’s board of directors (SIDF) has approved a loan for a new cement factory to help meet demand in the the Hail region.
