US: increase in average kiln sizes

US kiln sizes increased over the 2010-13 period, according to the PCA’s 2013 Plant Information Summary. The latest summary highlights that the average kiln now is equipped with an annual capacity of 698,000t, up from 673,000t in 2010. The report shows that the US cement industry operates operates 106 cement plants (99 clinker-producing and seven grinding facilities). This includes just under 100Mta of clinker capacity and 126Mta of finish grinding capability.

PCA foresees continued US cement industry growth

Cement consumption in the United States continues to grow in line with expectations, PCA chief economist and group vice president, Ed Sullivan, told the PCA Boad of Directors meeting last week. ASTM International has released the final product category rules (PCR) for Portland, blended hydraulic, masonry, mortar and plastic stucco cements. On 25 August, the PCA recognised 10 cement plants with the Chairman’s Safety Performance Awards for outstanding safety records at its autumn meeting in Chicago, USA.
