Pakistan cement industry showed mixed result of performance in October 2016. Sales of cement in the domestic market accelerated to 15.88 per cent in October 2016, but exports declined by 1.96 per cent compared. Dewan Cement Ltd (DCL) posted a net profit of PKR268m (US$2.55m) for the quarter ended 30 September, a 61.4 per cent increase YoY from the PKR166m registered last year. Company revenue increased 14 per cent YoY (-18 per cent QoQ) to PKR2.94bn, mainly as a result of increasing dispatches and rising prices following a higher federal excise duty on cement manufacturers. Cherat Cement Factory's Line 2 with a cement capacity of 4500tpd formally started production on 31 October 2016. The construction of the second line began in 2014 and has been completed within two years, said a senior manager at the factory. Pakistan: Lucky Cement 1QFY2017 profits up 16%

In its financial statement for the first quarter of the financial year starting in July, Lucky Cement has declared profits of PKR4.04bn (US$38.6m), the Express Tribune reports. Despite growth in export to neighbouring countries, the export revenue of Pakistan's cement industry did not increase, due to overall weak demand from overseas markets.   Pakistan cement manufacturers earned export revenues of US$24.52m on the export of 476,170t of cement during the month of September 2016 compared to US$30.04m on 573,395t in previous month. Attock Cement Pakistan Ltd (ACPL) reported that it has earned profit after tax of PKR691m (US$6.6m) in 1QFY16-17 compared to PKR481m in 1QFY16, up 44 per cent YoY.
