INC to launch new cement product

Paraguayan state-owned cement producer, Industria Nacional del Cemento (INC) will introduce a new cement product, CP 2-C 40, designed for concrete structures such as bridges and road. The new cement, which brings the company’s product portfolio to four, is expected to arrive on the market in June 2019.

Cartes EIS draws calls for cave protection

Paraguay’s cave research association, Fepae, has called on the country’s Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development to protect the Risso cave in San Lazaro, Conception, in response to proposals from Grupo Cartes to invest US$180m in a cement plant nearby. The request comes following the publication of an environmental impact study (EIS) by Sociedad Calera Risso that includes the construction of an electrical substation and 66kV transmission line relating to the plant.

Former INC president to head Cementos Concepción

The former president of Paraguayan state-run cement producer Industria Nacional del Cemento, Jorge Mendez, will be leading the new cement company Cementos Concepción, according to Esmerk Latin American News. The new 1Mta cement plant , announced earlier this week, is expected to come online in 2021. Equipment for the facility will be supplied by Denmark-based FLSmidth. When operational, the unit will produce two types of cement – for small and large construction projects.

Plans are underway to create a new cement company in Paraguay, Cementos Concepción (Cecom). FLSmidth wins equipment order in Paraguay

FLSmidth has won a contract worth over DKK350m (US$53.59m) to deliver equipment for a greenfield cement plant in Paraguay.   The facility will have a capacity of 2500tpd and mainly supply cement to its local market. Paraguay's Industria Nacional de Cemento (INC) has awarded the Sanfil GT consortium, represented by Christian Harrison Paleari, the contract for the supply of 24,000t of petcoke at a price of US$299/t. Delivery of the US$7m contract will be in two shipments of 12,000t each with the first shipment due for delivery by 5 February and the second by 15 March. Paraguay-based Industria Nacional de Cemento (INC) closed 2018 with a delivery record of 12,964,917 bags of cement. In 2017 INC delivered 12,702,486t, up from the 12,659,924t it dispatched in 2016. A fault in the cement silos at the Villeta plant of Industria National del Cemento (INC), Paraguay, has caused the spill of 250t of cement, rendering the product unusable. Uruguayan 3Q domestic cement sales up 14%

Cement sales in Uruguay increased 14 per cent YoY to 181,000t in the July-September quarter, according to a report by the country’s Chamber of Industries. However, exports fell by 74 per cent to 12,000t during the same period. Around 60 per cent of exports are delivered to Paraguay, followed by Argentina (27 per cent) and Brazil (13 per cent). Imports were negligible in the third quarter of 2018 and in the year to date, accounted for around 8.9 per cent of apparent consumption.
