Sino Zimbabwe has reduced the price of its cement products by 20 per cent to increase market share, according to reports by the Financial Gazette’s Companies & Markets. Construction costs in Costa Rica are lower due to the import of Chinese cement, according to local news service La Republica. Chinese imports retail at around 20 per cent below cement produced locally by Cemex and Holcim. Egyptian prices have declined three times in the past two months as a result of increased supply and low demand in the market, local media have reported. Steppe Cement Ltd Friday said its first-half loss before tax narrowed to US$2.29m from US$6.40m in the previous year. Loss after tax totaled US$2.2m, narrower than the US$4.1m loss in the prior year.  Consolidated turnover fell to US$44.7m from US$51.8m. Sales increased to 717,654t from 709,459t. JM Financial says in the past few weeks India cement prices have risen by INR50/bag in the north while they fell by INR20/bag in the south. Across India though cement prices have increased just 1.1 per cent YoY during April-July. Grupo Cementos de Chihuahua (GCC) reported a 19 per cent rise YoY in second-quarter net sales to MXP3051m (US$186m) on the back of higher volumes and a better pricing environment both in its Mexican and US markets. Shanshui Cement on Friday said it expects to record a loss in net profit for the six months ended 30 June 2015 compared to the net profit of the same corresponding period in 2014, adding that the loss is expected to be "relatively significant."
