Saudi Arabia: Northern Cement profits down 57% in 4Q16

Northern Region Cement Co reported a 57.3% YoY decline in profits in the fourth quarter of 2016, according to the company's filing to the Saudi Stock Exchange (Tadawul). Profits reached SAR16.91m (US$4.51m), down from SAR39.62m in 4Q15 and -43.8 per cent when compared with the 3Q16. The decline is attributed to lower sales due to intense competition, lower selling prices and reduces volumes. Peru's sees 3.4% market contraction in 2016

Cement consumption in Peru fell 5.2 per cent to 836,000t in December 2016, according to Asocem, the country's cement association. Exports decreased 43.5 per cent to 27,000t from 47,000t in December 2015. Cement production in December reached 886,000t, representing a 4.8 per cent decline YoY. Cement demand in Colombia fell by 4.6 per cent in November 2016 to 1.019Mt when compared with November 2015, according to DANE, the country's statistics office. Swiss cement producers dispatched 1,076,007t of cement in 4Q16, up 1.6 per cent from 1,058,619t delivered in 4Q15, according to the latest data of the country's cement association, Cemsuisse. Although the Nepal Bureau of Standards and Metrology (NBSM) says it has penned a quality certification draft, the government is yet to begin the grading process for domestic cement brands.
