Cementos Moctezuma completes second line at Apazapan

Cementos Molins and Buzzi Unicem's Mexican joint venture, Cementos Moctezuma, announced that construction of the second production line at its Apazapan plant in Veracruz state has now been completed. The new line will fully enter operation on 15 December, when the mill is commissioned. The project, financed by the company through its own resources, represents an investment of US$23m. It will enable output at the works to rise by 20 per cent and increases capacity from 1.3Mta to 1.4Mta.

Carbon Market Watch is urging EU lawmakers to abolish the carbon emissions trading scheme (ETS) after it was revealed that cement producers took EUR5bn windfall from scheme between 2008 and 2015. United Cement Co of Nigeria (UNICEM) commissioned its new line at Mfamosing, Cross River State, in September 2016. Loesche has since announced its scope of supply for the project, including the LM70.4+4CS, its largest VRM built for grinding clinker. Tanzania: Lake Cement plans new plant in Bagamoyo

Lake Cement Ltd announced it will invest US$150m in a new cement plant in Bagamoyo, Pwani Region, Tanzania, with a production capacity of 1.4Mta. Construction is due to commence mid-2017, with completion expected to take approximately two years. The plant will use limestone sourced from the project area. India Cements received a stay order following its appeal of the decision made by the Competition Commission of India (CCI) to impose a INR1.87m fine on it for unfair pricing practices. McInnis Cement has taken delivery of its first shipment of raw materials for its 2.5Mta Port-Daniel-Gascon plant. Moroccan cement demand up 8.4% YoY Oct 2016

Moroccan cement sales increased 8.4 per cent in October 2016 when compared with the previous year. In the first 10 months of 2016, cement sales in the kingdom edged up by 0.9 per cent, according to the Directorate of Financial Studies and Forecasting (DEPF), Ministry of Economy and Finance. Real estate loans were up 2.4 per cent to MAD246.4bn (US$24.4bn) at the end of the first nine months of 2016, an improvement when compared with the 2.2 per cent increase noted in 9M15.

Preliminary data published by the US Geological Survey (USGS) concerning US shipments of cement in September 2016 estimates that Portland and blended cement consumption fell to 8.78Mt for the month, down from the month prior when total shipments reached 9.4Mt. Pakistan: cement industry export revenue falls in 4MFY16-17

Pakistan cement manufacturers earned revenues of US$28.3m on 543,674t of cement exports in October 2016, compared to US$24.52m on 476,170t of exports in the previous month. These figures represent a MoM rise in dollar value and volumes of 15.42t and 14.18 per cent, respectively. Birla Corporation have reported a net profit of INR584m (US$8.49m) for the quarter ended 30 September 2016 compared to INR232m for the same period last year. Total income declined 4.3 per cent to INR8.86bn in the July-September quarter from INR9.27bn in the previous year.
