Cameroon: first raw materials arrive at Dangote’s Douala plant14 January 2015, Published under Cement NewsDangote Cement has received the first cargoes of raw materials for its new cement works at Douala, Cameroon. The delivery consists of clinker, gypsum and pozzolan, produced in the 27ha quarry in Tombel, in the south-west of the country. Dangote has an exploitation agreement for five years for the location. Over the past two weeks, the company has been carrying out equipment tests in the new 1.5Mta plant, which represents an investment of XAF50bn (US$90m). |
Saudi monthly cement sales up 17% YoY14 January 2015, Published under Cement NewsSaudi Arabian cement sales in December 2014 rose 17 per cent YoY to 5.59Mt from 4.79Mt in the same month of the year before, latest statistics published by domestic producer Yamama Cement Co reveal. The Egyptian Gas Holding Co (EGAS) has halted gas supplies to cement plants and redirected them to power plants, Daily News (Egypt) reports. The Al-Qatameya, Helwan and Al-Qawmeya plants have been exempted from the gas cuts as they are directly connected to the Abu Gharadiq gas field, according to the report. The country’s cement producers supplied 905,306t of cement, including exports, registering a MoM drop of 10.4 per cent and 2.4 per cent YoY.
