Dangote opens grinding plant in Cameroon, Zimbabwe works on the cards

Dangote Cement Plc has inaugurated its 1.5Mta cement grinding plant in Douala, Cameroon. In addition, the company laid the foundation for a 200m terminal in Base Elf area, of the Douala Port. PPC has held a groundbreaking ceremony for its new 0.7Mta cement works in Msara, near Harare, Zimbabwe. Lafarge Cement Zimbabwe secures additional funding for plant upgrades

Lafarge Cement Zimbabwe has secured approval from its parent company, Lafarge Group, to invest an additional $5m on plant upgrades this year. The cement maker last year announced plans to invest about $10m-$15m on upgrading grinding capabilities. Masvingo Rural District Council has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Xhing Xhong Cement Co of China for the establishment of a new cement plant in Zimbabwe. “I can confirm that we’ve agreed with an investor who wants to establish a cement plant in Chief Charumbira’s area. PPC Zimbabwe Ltd is expected to commission its new cement mill at its plant in Harare next year, an official has said. South Africa's largest cement producer, PPC, reported a two per cent rise in cement sales for the full year to the end of September 2014, as growth in some of its sub-Saharan markets was offset by challenging operating conditions at home.
