PPC 1H17 earnings strong on robust Zimbabwe and Rwanda sales

South Africa’s PPC Ltd reported in its inaudited 1H17 accounts a 36 per cent YoY rise in first-half earnings, supported by a strong performance in Zimbabwe and Rwanda. Dandot Cement loss increases in 1QFY17

Pakistan's Dandot Cement Co Ltd (DCCL) reported a loss after tax of PKR-110m in the first quarter ended 30 September 2017,compared to a loss of PKR-64m in 1QFY16. Net sales declined 43.6 per cent to PKR289m in 1QFY2017 from PKR512m in the year-ago period. Distribution costs advanced from PKR0.8m to PKR1m YoY while administrative expenses increased from PKR4m to PKR5.6m.

CRH sees a 3% revenue increase in 3Q17

CRH has reported a three per cent increase in revenue for the third quarter of 2017. The group's EBITDA has also risen two per cent YoY for the 3Q. In its third-quarter 2017 results announcement Brazil’s Votorantim Group reported a one per cent increase in the net revenues of Votorantim Cimentos to BRL3.208bn (US$968.2m) from BRL3.19bn in 3Q16. Adjusted EBITDA fell 27 per cent YoY to BRL521m in 3Q17 from BRL715m in the year-ago period. The company’s EBITDA margin stood at 16 per cent. Prism Cement has posted a 50.4 per cent YoY rise in EBITDA for the 2Q17 period ended 30 September 2017 to INR376m (US$5.78m). The resulting EBITDA margin for the second quarter was 3.2 per cent. Star Cement reported a standalone net profit of INR219.9m (US$3.37m) for the 2Q17 period ended 30 September 2017, a 89.9 per cent increase from the INR108m seen in the year-ago period. Alexandria Cement, Egypt, reported audited financial results for 9M17 ended 30 September 2017 with consolidated losses widening to EGP-358.78m (US$-20.3m) when compared with EGP-85.17m in the year-ago period. Taiwan Cement Corp plans to spend TWD980m (US$32.45) on a green energy project at the Changhua Coastal Industrial Park. Egypt’s Sinai Cement has reported losses of EGP-253.5m (US$-14.4m) in the first nine months of the year, against profits of EGP21.8m in 9M16, as shown by the company’s independent financial statements. During the nine-month period, sales rose to EGP939.29m, up 1.1 per cent from EGP929.22m in the year-ago period. Sales costs quadrupled to EGP972.2m from EGP235.3m.
