Colombia: market expands 2.7% in May 2015

Cement dispatches in Colombia increased 2.7 per cent YoY to 1.062Mt, according to the country’s statistics office, DANE. The increase is primarily the result of an 8.7 per cent rise in the construction and contractors segment, which expanded by 8.7 per cent. The Spanish cement market saw its growth decelerate from 13 per cent in April to 5.4 per cent in May 2015, with 1,023,326t shipped to domestic customers, according to the latest data released by cement association Oficemen. In the year to date, consumption increased 8.7 per cent to 4,537,502t.

Indonesian monthly consumption declines by 7.9%

Indonesian consumption remained weak in May, declining by nearly eight per cent, latest data from the Indonesia Cement Association shows. Cement demand fell by 7.9 per cent in May 2015 to 4.78Mt. Consumption during the month was down in all areas, with Kalimantan seeing the largest regional drop (-24.3 per cent) followed by Maluk & Irian Jaya (-16.2 per cent) and Sulawesi. Vietnam's Ministry of Construction expects a four per cent YoY rise in cement and clinker sales in 2015 to 74Mt, comprising 53Mt of domestic sales and exports of 20Mt. Morocco sees 8.5% market contraction in May

Moroccan cement sales fell 6.3 per cent MoM and 8.5 per cent YoY in May 2015 to 1,266,114t, according to Ministry of Housing. The latest figure effectively neutralises any growth noted in the first four months of the year. For the year to date cement sales reached 6,172,299t, down slightly by 0.3 per cent when compared with 5M14. Cement sales decreased considerably in Chaouia-Ourdigha (-29 per cent), Guelmim-Es-Smara (-27 per cent) and Laâyoun-Boujdour-S-Elhamra (-26 per cent).

Cement sales in Cyprus fall over first five months

Cement sales in Cyprus fell 10 per cent from January to May compared to the same period a year ago to 170,684t, Cystat, the country’s statistical service, said. In May alone, there was a two per cent drop to 38,053t compared to the same month last year, Cystat said in a statement on its website. Tunisian cement demand falls 6.5% in 4M15

In the first four months of 2015, the Tunisian cement marked contracted by 6.5 per cent YoY to 2.4Mt, according to the latest data revealed by Taoufik Khardani, deputy director of building materials industries at the country’s Ministry of Industry. However, exports were up by 28 per cent from 461,000t to 590,000t. Tunisia’s cement producers manufactured 2.98Mt of cement, down 5.6 per cent on 4M14, when 3.16Mt of cement was produced.
