Domestic cement sales in Vietnam rose nine per cent YoY in the first five months of 2013, pointing to signs of economic recovery thanks to government measures to stimulate the housing market. Cement demand in Belgium declined 2.2 per cent to 6.41Mt but this decrease was well below the European average decline of 18.8 per cent, according to Belgian cement association Febelcem. The Colombian cement market increased its demand 16.4 per cent YoY to 0.919Mt in April, latest figures from the country's statistics office, Dane, reveal. Spanish cement consumption fell 25.5 per cent over the first four months of 2012, down to 3.472Mt, latest data from domestic association Oficemen shows. In April alone, demand was 139,578t less than April 2012 to just just 936,956t. Production for the January-April period was also down 25.9 per cent to 4.01Mt compared to 5.42Mt in the same period of 2012. April 2013 output was 19.3 per cent lower 1.07Mt compared to 1.32Mt in the same period of the month before.

Indonesian cement sales increased by 8.6 per cent in the four months to the end of April 2013, the latest data from the Indonesian Cement Association (ASI) reveals.
