Exports offset domestic losses for Molins

The third-quarter consolidated net profit of Spain’s Cementos Molins fell 65.5 per cent YoY to EUR10.8m. The company’s international subsidiaries enjoyed a profit of EUR43.3m, offsetting the EUR32.5m loss registered in the domestic market. UGTA strike impacts Pakistan cement exports, raw material supplies

An indefinite strike by Pakistan’s Goods Transporters Alliance (UGTA), now in its 10th day, is impacting the delivery of cement exports as well as raw material supplies. Export consignments from cement factories to the Karachi and Muhammabd Bin Qasim ports in the Sindh Province have been disrupted due to the non-availability of trucks. US August cement shipments ahead YoY

Total shipments of Portland and blended cement in the US and Puerto Rico in August 2013 rose five per cent YoY to 8.6Mt, data from the US Geological Survey shows. Raysut Cement, the leading cement producer in Oman, reported a rise in pretax profit for the first nine months of 2013, but sales eased due in part to competition from neighbouring UAE. During the Jan-September 2013 period the company reported a 12.6 per cent YoY rise in net profit before tax of OMR21.52m (US$55.9m). In the first 10 months, Vietnam Cement Industry Corporation (Vicem) sales rose by 9.2 per cent YoY to 17.65Mt, including a significant rise in exports. Of the total, 15.84Mt was sold in the domestic market, while 1.8Mt was exported, up 4.8 per cent and 74.2 per cent YoY, respectively. Iran’s exports rise 15.79% in first seven months

Iran exported some 7.714Mt of Portland cement during the first seven months of the current Iranian calendar year (beginning 21 March 2013), representing a 15.79 per cent YoY rise. Clinker exports reached 1.61Mt, up 144.65 per cent on the same period of the previous year,  data from the Iranian Custom Administration showed. In the last calendar year, Iranian cement and clinker exports were 13.648Mt, comprising 11.85Mt of cement and 1.79Mt of clinker.

Jamaica signs CCCL export agreement to Venezuela

The government of Jamaica has signed an agreement for Caribbean Cement Co Ltd (CCCL) to supply cement to Corporación Socialista del Cemento under the PetroCaribe agreement, local media have reported. Significant rise in Saudi Arabia clinker imports

Saudi cement companies have reported a significant rise in clinker imports over the first three quarters of the year while cement exports decline. Clinker imports totalled 1,925,000t during 9M13 compared to 399,000t in the same period of last year, an increase of 382.4 per cent, according to a report, prepared by Al-Eqtisadiah daily. DG Khan sees 17% decline in first-quarter exports, Pakistan

DG Khan Cement reported a lower-than-expected post-tax profit of PKR1.07bn (US$10m) in the first quarter of the current fiscal year, down 26 per cent from the PKR1.44bn reported in the same period of last year. The government of Bangladesh has set an export revenue target of US$6.46m for cement, stone and salt over FY13-14 its export Promotion Bureau (EPB) has said.
