Cimpor to refocus Portuguese operations towards exports

With Portuguese cement demand remaining subdued, Cimpor is trying to reorientate cement output from its domestic operations towards export markets, CEO, Ricardo Lima, has said. Armenian cement exports have increased over the first six months of the year despite a drop in domestic output. Vietnam Cement Industry Corporation (Vicem) reported a 9.5 per cent YoY rise in sales for the first nine months of 2013 to 15.84Mt, meeting 72.3 per cent of its full-year target. Iran has reported a four per cent rise in cement output in the first half of the current Iranian calendar compared to the same period of last year. Pakistan: July-August cement exports up by 5.7%

Pakistan's cement exports increased 5.72 per cent during the first two months of current FY13-14, totalling US$96.796m, against the same period of last year when exports were US$91.557m. On a MoM basis,  cement exports also increased by 1.24 per cent, but decreased by 12.03 per cent in August 2013 when compared with the exports in August 2012 and July 2013. Pakistan cement exporters have had a good start to the current fiscal, with volumes and earnings up on an annual basis. During July and August 2013, Pakistan exported 1.62Mt of cement on revenues of US$96.79m compared to 1.4446Mt at US$91.55m, representing a rise of 12.03 and 5.72 per cent in volumes and US dollar value, respectively. Bosnia-based cement producer Fabrika Cementa Lukavac is set to export 30,000t of cement to Libya by the end of the year, local media said on Wednesday. Pakistan cement sales are expected to increase by six per cent YoY in September 2013 on the back of a rise in domestic demand. Dispatches are forecast to climb to 2.76Mt for the month compared to 2.61Mt in the same period of last year. Cement consumption in Spain continues its freefall with the figure for August down more than 23 per cent to 886,005t. Production fell by 7.7 per cent from 1,308,090t to 1,207,891t in August, according to the latest figures by the country’s cement association, Oficemen. India Cements is looking at the possibility of resuming exports in a bid to improve capacity utilisation and benefit from the falling rupee, N Srinivasan, Vice-Chairman and Managing Director of the company, has indicated.
