Pakistan cement exports down 27.6% in FY15-16

Pakistan's cement industry exported 5.97Mt of cement in FY15-16, which represents a fall of 22.3 per cent YoY, according to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics. The bureau attributes the decline to contracting demand and competition among other issues. In terms of value, exports during July 2015-June 2016 saw a 27.6 per cent YoY decrease from US$443.63m to US$321.29m. India: UltraTech purchases more coal linkages

UltraTech Cement has won an auction for 95,000t of coal from  Junadhi Mines in Chhattisgarh. The rights to use the coal are being sold off as part of a wider exercise within the Indian coal industry.  UltraTech will pay INR1050/t (US$15.60/t) for the coal.

Emami Cement Ltd, part of the Emami Group, announced its plans to expand on a national scale over the next 5-7 years, with intentions to open plants in areas such as Rajasthan and Karnataka, India. India: Lakshmi Cement gets green light to expand Sirohi limestone mine

Lakshmi Cement has been given environmental clearance to expand its opencast limestone mine in the Sirohi district of Rajasthan. Under the proposals, the mine’s capacity will be expanded from 8 to 13Mta. The firm had originally applied for permission for the project in March 2013, but environmental clearance was not given until July 2016. Work on the 390.625ha site is expected to commence immediately.

India’s Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has given its blessing to LafargeHolcim’s proposals to simplify the structure of its remaining operations in the country.
