Pakistan cement exports continue to excel in April 2024

Pakistan’s cement industry’s total cement dispatches during April 2024 were 2.94Mt, compared to 2.95Mt in April 2023. This comprises local cement at 2.33Mt against 2.53Mt in April 2023, showing a decline of 7.99 per cent. Cement traders are seeing price hikes despite stable fuel prices, according to Ghana Business News. All three grades of cement produced by Ghana Cement (Ghacem) have seen an upward trend. A bag of Super Cool cement increased from GHS82 (US$5.95) to GHS88 while Super Rapid now sells at GHS95, up from GHS87. Super Strong cement is now supplied at GHS105 from GHS95. Cement sales in Vietnam continue to struggle versus their year-ago levels. Sales were down 17 per cent YoY to 5.113Mt in March 2024, from 6.161Mt a year earlier, according to the Vietnam National Cement Association (VNCA). Uzbekistan sees opening of new 2.5Mta cement plant

The opening ceremony of a new 2.5Mta cement plant took place in the Andijan region of Uzbekistan, according to Trend. China-based Conch International Holdings Ltd and Zhejiang Shanfeng Building Materials Co Ltd invested US$250m in the Andijan Conch project near the border with Kyrgyzstan. Uzbek cement production reached 15.5Mt in 2023. In January 2024 the sector supplied an output of 627,900t, more than doubling the production of January 2023.

Total shipments of Portland and blended cement, including imports, in the US and Puerto Rico amounted to 5.886Mt in the first month of 2024, down 14.3 per cent YoY from the 6.872Mt recorded in January 2023, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS).
