Thai firm secures plant deal in Myanmar

Thailand’s largest cement company is scheduled to begin construction of a cement plant in Myanmar’s southern Tenasserim, Taninthayi Division next year, according to a report in Eleven Media. “SCG [Siam Cement Group] is planning to manufacture its main products in Myanmar and willing to open four retail stores in Yangon, Mandalay Naypyitaw and one other major city,” said SCG’s country manager Soontornpol Veerapravati. “The plan is also to expand more stores in other cities in the future.” ...

From October 2011 to October this year, Venezuelan cement companies produced 8.295Mt of cement, the highest annualised output in the country’s history, according to Entorno Inteligente. HeidelbergCement has reported a rise in revenue and profit for the second quarter of 2012 driven by increased sales in North America and Asia as well as successful price increases. Oman Cement has reported a 23.01 per cent in net profit for the first half of 2012. Earnings rose to OMR9.02m (US$23.4m) compared to OMR7.3m in 1H11. Cement sales advanced 20.22 per cent to 1.36Mt in the six months to June compared to 0.94Mt in the corresponding period of last year. Turnover was up 13.11 per cent to OMR28.065m.
