Siam Cement plans Indonesian investment

Siam Cement PCL, Thailand's largest conglomerate, has announced plans to invest around THB10bn (US$315m) to build a cement plant in Indonesia, President and Chief Executive Kan Trakulhoon said Wednesday. The planned investment is part of the company's five-year investment budget worth around THB200bn, Fox Business Reports, which is due to be proposed to the company's board for consideration in August, he said.

PT Semen Gresik has lost market share in the first half of this year due to production growth being slower than increases in Indonesian consumption.  In the first half of the year, state-owned Gresik sold 10.3Mt of cement, up 12 per cent YoY, and accounting for 39.7 per cent of Indonesia’s total cement sales. Sancim Cement is to build a new cement plant in Adana, southern  Turkey, according to daily Milliyet. The plant will be able to produce 1.7Mta of clinker and 2Mta cement and the investment period is expected to be around 20-22 months.

Ghana’s leading cement producer Ghacem is to commission an additional 1Mta mill this year at its Tema Factory in November this year, according to the company’s managing director Morten Gade. Southern Province Cement second-quarter profit rises, Saudi Arabia

Southern Province Cement (SPC) posted a 9.6 per cent increase in second quarter profit, Reuters reports. SPC achieved a net profit of US$69.86m during the quarter, up from US$63.6m a year earlier. Revenue rose 6.77 per cent to US$71.6m compared to US$67m in 2Q11.
