Swiss cement sales slip 3% in 2017

Cement deliveries in Switzerland saw a 2.8 per cent fall to in 2017 as Cemsuisse reports a domestic sales volume of 4.3Mta. The drop follows a 4.2 per cent rise in 2016. The initial drop in the 1H17 was partly absorbed in the 2H17, but the 4Q17 saw a 0.8 per cent decline. Cemsuisse said the share of rail transport increased YoY to account for 53.3 per cent of all deliveries.

Lafarge helps boost rail freight for Zambia Railways

Zambia Railways Ltd (ZRL) has recorded an increase in freight in the first half of the year by 70,379t due to signing of service level agreements with local companies.  Part of the increase was due to ZRL arranging a new contract with Lafarge Cement. Swiss cement dispatches drop 7.9% YoY in 2015

Cement sales in Switzerland fell 4.2 per cent QoQ in the fourth quarter of 2015, according to domestic cement producers’ association, Cemsuisse. For the full year, deliveries decreased by 7.9 per cent YoY to 4.219Mt. The low-carbon cement segment, particularly CEM II, saw a rise of 90 per cent. In 1995, its market share was limited to six per cent. In terms of transport, 51.1 per cent of dispatches took place via rail.

Hope announces GBP1m wagon investment

Hope Construction Materials has announced a major investment in rail transportation from its flagship Derbyshire cement operation in the UK. The company is investing over GBP1m in the manufacture and long-term lease of 48 tailor-made rail wagons for the distribution of cement from its Hope Works, in Hope Valley. UAE’s Sharjah Cement Factory has signed a memorandum of understanding with Etihad Rail which will enable the cement producer to transport more than 5Mta of cement and raw materials, more than half the company’s current logistic requirements. India’s cement transport by rail falls 11.8 per cent

A rise in freight charges has seen a drop in cement volumes carried by Indian Railways.
