Katav Cement releases Jan-Aug 2004 output

Katav Cement (based in the Chelyabinsk region, Russia) produced 514,500t of cement in Jan-Aug 2004, a 5-fold rise versus the figure posted in the same period 2003. The plant also made 35,500 tons of special packaged products, a more than 2-fold increase as compared to Jan-Aug 2003, Eurocement press service reported.

Prices of building materials stable

Philippine cement prices remain stable at P135 per 40-kilogram bag, the Construction Industry Authority of the Philippines (CIAP) yesterday said. The Associated Cement Companies (ACC) recorded dispatches of 1.246Mt in Aug 2004 compared to 1.18Mt in Aug 2003. Ambuja Cement recorded dispatches of 1.08Mt compared to 0.95Mt in Aug 2003. Grasim Industries registered a decline of 4.92 percent in dispatches of 0.94Mt in Aug 2004. UltraTech Cement recorded a fall of 11.13 percent in dispatches of 0.78Mt.

Tariffs on imports removed, Egypt

The Egyptian Minister of Foreign Trade and Industry, Rashid Mohamed Rashid, has announced that Egypt will remove tariffs on cement imports which amount to 10 per cent for unpacked cement and 20 per cent for packed cement imports. The UAE cement producers agreed at a meeting on August 31, 2004 not to export cement until the situation on the local cement market stabilises, it was reported on September 1, 2004.
