20 December 2011

Vietnamese Prime Minister on December 14 requested to stop calling investments for cement projects, among other industries, and instead promote investment in high-technology projects.

The PM made the request at the 27th diplomatic conference held in Hanoi on Dec 14, the Tuoi tre newspaper reported Dec 15.

The Ministry of Construction earlier forecast that Vietnam will face a surplus of between 5Mt-10Mt of cement this year due to the additional operation of 12 more cement plants with a combined capacity of 10.8Mt.

In addition, the additional operation of 55 new cement plants next year, with a combined capacity of 66.96Mt amid the local big surplus will be a big challenge for the local cement makers, the ministry said.
