Vietnam’s Ministry of Construction reported that in August the country consumed 3.41Mt of cement, raising total demand in the first eight months to 31.65Mt, equalling to 58 per cent against the targeted plan for the year. In addition, cement producers exported about 2.8Mt of clinker and cement so far.

In 2011, the ministry has estimated cement demand at about 54.5-56Mt, a YoY increase of 9-10 per cent. Of which, Vietnam Cement Industry Corp (Vicem) was expected to produce and sell about 19-19.5Mt while other joint ventures companies 17-17.5Mt, and other cement producers 18.5-19Mt.

As planned, 10 cement projects will be finished and put into operation this year with a production capacity of 9.48Mt. Two projects have already been completed and the other eight projects are scheduled to be finished this year.
