Venezuela produces 4.1Mt in first half 2011

For the first six months of 2011, Venezuela produced 4.1Mt.

Ricardo Menéndez, minister of People’s Power for Science, Technology and Intermediate Industries reported that the Great Mission Housing Venezuela requires 2.1Mt of cement for housing production this year.

As part of the investment in the cement sector, he said President Hugo Chávez, approved the activation of the second line of the cement plant in San Sebastian de los Reyes in Aragua State, which will double capacity with an additional 1.2Mta.

The Cumarebo plant is also being expanded, incorporating an additional 400,000t into the domestic market, as well as the production of a cement unit in Cerro Azul, in Monagas state, which is in the final phase of construction.

Menendez said that this group of plants will generate an additional production of 3Mt between 2012-2013, to meet the demand for infrastructure projects.
