Swiss cement deliveries up 5.8% in third quarter??
08 October 2010

Cement demand continues to rise in Switzerland. In the third quarter of 2010, shipments rose 5.8% over the same period last year. In the first nine months of the year, the increase is 6.3%.

A total of 1.29Mt have been delivered in the 3Q. During the first nine months 2010, the amount of cement delivered was 3,.45Mt, said the Association of Swiss cement industry (cemsuisse) Thursday.

According to the association, the maintaining growth "is the result of continued favourable activity in the construction sector."

But next year, tighter budgets of the Confederation would lead to cuts in public investment.

For cemsuisse, it is not easy to estimate to what extent these reductions will be offset by the construction of homes and buildings.
