Nigeria: cement production to hit 1.3Mt in 2010
10 May 2010

Domestic production in Nigeria is expected to increase to around 13Mt at the end of this year, chairman of the Cement Manufacturers Association of Nigeria Engr Joseph Makoju said.

Speaking to local press, he said last year’s production totalled about 7-8Mt. “Last year, total local production came to as 7-8Mt. This year it will be about 4-5Mt higher, representing a 50 per cent increase.”

He added that in order for Nigeria to become a cement producing nation that will meet local demand, the country needs to address some of the problems the industry faces especially reviewing its import policy. However, Makoju noted that improvements in gas supply have come as good news as there will be huge increases in generating capacity from thermal stations.
