First quarter growth for Indonesian sales

First quarter growth for Indonesian sales
20 April 2010

Indonesia cement sales rose 17.72 per cent to 9.74Mt in the first quarter of this year from 8.27Mt in the same period last year.

The surge reflected recovery of the market from last year’s slump brought about by global economic crisis in 2008, analysts said.

The highest increase was recorded in February when sales shot up 19.72 per cent to 3.16Mt from 2.64Mt a year earlier, data from the association of cement producers showed.

In the first quarter of 2009, companies operating in the property, infrastructure and manufacturing sectors slowed operations amid the global financial crisis.

Association chairman, Urip Timuryono, said improved trend is expected to continue through the second quarter of this year.
