China’s cement demand in 2009 is expected to reach 1.541bnt, up 6.3 per cent from 1.449bnt in 2008, said Guo Wenlong, an official with National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), at an annual cement market forum.

He estimated that direct investment from the central budget to the transport and warehouse storage sector would come to CNY300bn (US$43.87bn) by 2010, which will drive another CNY1trn of investment from local governments and business communities.

As China continued to modernize its transport network, it would have sustained and stable demand for cement, he said.
