Japan cement sales hit 39-year low

Japanese cement sales fell to their lowest level in 39 years in 2008 due to a slowdown of both public and private construction projects.

Sales fell 9.6 per cent from the previous year to 50.47Mt, the Japan Cement Association said Thursday.

Cement production declined 5.4 per cent to 67.58Mt.
