ACC enters waste management (through a separate AFR business)
ACC Ltd, India’s largest cement manufacturer, is diversifying into the business of alternative fuels and raw materials (AFR). ACC has already created a separate AFR business segment with a team working on using pet coke and biomass as alternative fuel and raw material. ACC also proposes to provide waste management services to multinational companies in the country. With increasing input costs affecting its profit margins in the cement business, the company expects that the AFR business will help it add about INR50-100 crore annually to its net profit by 2011.
