Indonesia April domestic cement sales up 28 per cent
14 May 2008

Indonesia’s domestic cement sales growth jumped 28.2 per cent in April from a year ago to 3.08Mt.

The data showed sales at the country’s largest cement maker, PT Semen Gresik Tbk , rose 20.6 percent to 1.39Mt.

The April sales took year-to-date domestic cement sales to 11.9Mt, up nearly a fifth from a year ago.

Gresik’s sales were slower compared to its two main rivals, PT Indocement Tunggal Prakarsa Tbk and PT Holcim Indonesia Tbk , which recorded 41.3 per cent and 36.4 per cent increases in domestic sales last month, respectively.

State-owned Gresik saw its market share improve to 45.3 per cent from 43.9 per cent in March, although the share was down from 48.1 percent in April, 2007.

Analysts expect demand for cement to remain strong with the government pressing for construction of some key infrastructure projects to boost economic growth.
