Cimpor to more than double Chinese capacity
12 November 2007

Having taken a controlling stake in Shandong Liuyuan New Type Cement in the spring, Cimpor has now announced a major investment programme for a cement project in the Shanting area of the province of Shandong that amounts to approximately EUR100m.  The programme involves a new integrated cement works with two production lines, each with a clinker capacity of 1.5m tonnes per annum.  The first kiln should be lit during the first half of 2009 and work on the second unit will begin thereafter, provided the district government starts enforcing the closure of shaft kilns in line with the standing central government policy.  On completion of the second production line, Cimpor’s Chinese arm will have an annual cement capacity exceeding 5Mt, compared with 1.8Mt at present.
