More cement to fill weekly demand, Jamaica
02 August 2006

Another 20,000t of cement is expected to arrive  to Jamaica this week. The supply which is being imported by Caribbean Cement Company is expected to help meet the country’s weekly demand for cement.

Information Minister Colin Campbell says the shipment along with the 3,000 tonnes imported by the private sector should be enough to meet local demand which is estimated at 24,000t weekly.

22,780t of cement was supplied to the sector last week of which the Cement Company provided just over 19,290t.

The Government has since March also put in place an arrangement with Cuba to supply cement to the local market which has since February been crippled by a severe shortage.
