25 November 2005

Syrian Minister of Economy and Trade Amer Lutfi said Wednesday that China may invest in the local cement industry. “Syria’s annual production of cement reaches 4.5Mt. People and industries in Syria are increasingly rushing for this material due to the construction development Syria is witnessing,” Lutfi said in a meeting with representatives of China’s Sinohidro Corporation. During the meeting, the minister discussed the possibility of establishing Chinese investments in Syria, particularly in the field of cement. The Chinese delegation, for its part, expressed desire to establish a factory to produce cement in Syria. Sinohidro Corp. is the biggest governmental company in China in the field of contracting, energy and dams. It implements 70% of Chinese projects. The Chinese delegation is preparing a study of economic feasibility to establish a cement factory in Syria, SANA reported. Published under Cement News
