Lafarge pays fine levied by Competition Council
18 August 2005

Cement producer Lafarge Romcim SA has notified the Competition Council of the payment of 377,237,432,195 ROL (one euro sells for 35,905 ROL) in fine levied under resolution no.94/2005, the Competition Council said on Wednesday. The stance taken by Lafarge gives a strong signal as to the Romanian cement market’s future.

The Competition Council hails Lafarge’s decision to make a weighty contribution to the development of a normal competition environment on the cement market, the release says. Apart from the competition body’s professionalism and authority to cope with complex cases, the completion of the "cement" investigation should send a signal to all Romanian trade operators about their obligation to comply with the Competition Law, the Council adds.
