Cement output dips in July, India

Major cement companies reported a decline in production in July this year over the corresponding month last year. 
 
Cement production of Gujarat Ambuja Cements Limited (GACL) in July has decreased by eight per cent over the corresponding period last year. In absolute terms, production was 0.949Mt in July. Sales for the same period too have decreased by eight per cent to 0.947Mt.  
 
The Aditya Birla Group’s cement production for July 2005 stood at 0.2Mt, which is lower by 4.82 per cent over the corresponding period last year. Its sales fell by 3.59 per cent in July 2005. This is due to the dislocations of Gujarat plants.The Associated Cement Companies (ACC) too has registered a decline in its production which stood at 1.291Mt in July, 2005 against 1.323Mt in the corresponding period last year. However, there has been a slight increase in its sales of 1.28Mt against 1.279Mt last year.  
 
However, ACC has achieved an overall increase of 0.441Mt in sales and 0.360Mt in production during the April-July 2005 period compared to the corresponding period in the last financial year.
